A Staggering Legacy of Characters and Awards
Kota Srinivasa Rao had an astonishing filmography—over 750 movies in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. He was first seen in Pranam Khareedu in 1978, the same film that launched Chiranjeevi. Over his long career, he played unforgettable villains, comic roles, and strong supporting characters, winning accolades like nine Nandi Awards and the Padma Shri in 2015. Audiences loved his expressive dialogue delivery and unmatched versatility. His sudden death feels like the end of an era in Indian cinema.

The Final Curtain: His Last Film Appearance
Even as he battled ill health, Kota Srinivasa Rao briefly returned to the screen for Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring alongside Pawan Kalyan. Sadly, he passed away just before the film’s release slated for July 31, 2025, making it his final cinematic performance.
The Man Behind the Roles
Born in Kankipadu, Andhra Pradesh, on July 10, 1942, Rao started his career after earning a Bachelor of Science and working at a bank. He entered films full-time after Pranam Khareedu. Known for his humility despite fame, he often avoided the limelight in later years. He is survived by his wife Rukmini, two daughters, and a late son who passed away in 2010.
A Career That Shaped a Generation
Kota’s ability to bring depth to every role—villain, father, politician—made him a household name. From comic gems like Money to powerful parts in Siva and Attarintiki Daredi, he shaped the narratives of modern Telugu cinema. His loss echoes not just in film circles but also with the countless viewers who grew up watching him.
